Flavor Insight’s 110,000 square foot facility in Benicia, California houses our lab and manufacturing plant all under one roof, meaning we’re able to develop flavors and get your product to market faster.
Our state-of-the-art equipment includes machinery that allows us to produce everything from lab- and pilot-scale quantities up to the finished product in our industrial-scale spray dryer—the largest on the West Coast.
GEA Spray Food Dryer S-1
Flavor Insight’s industrial scale spray dryer enables us to produce large quantities of powdered flavors. The powdered flavor creation process starts with a liquid slurry which is fed to an atomizer dispersing the mixture into controlled droplets which are then heated/dried by a hot gas, resulting in a powdered product.
Mobile Minor
The Mobile Minor enables us to dry small quantities of solutions, suspensions, or emulsions into powdered samples. This generates processing data required for scale-up and “pilot scale” powders.
Buchi B-290
The Buchi “Mini” B-290 enables us to produce lab-scale quantities of spray-dried product. This is critical for optimizing operating parameters for new ingredients.
Armfield FT174X
The FT174X is a modular HTST/UHT (degrees of pasteurization) processing system designed to treat products at flow rates of 10-40 l/hr or up to 60 l/hr for water (or similar low viscosity products). This allows us to quickly heat and then cool perishable beverages to mitigate microbiological risks on the pilot scale.
8890-5977 GC-MS
The GC-MS is used for qualitative and quantitative analysis of volatile flavor compounds. The gas chromatograph separates compounds in complex mixtures by chemical properties (polarity), which are then “detected” by the mass spectrometer. This process provides insight into the chemical composition of flavors.
